The Angel Voices Ministry of song this morning included "Cantate Domino- Jens Klimek" and "Keep Yo' Lamps -- Traditional Spiritual."  Last week, it was the Sanctuary Choir who led us in song. Special renditions of "What a Wonderful World" by Bernard Davis concluded the services. Thank you, Bernard.

This morning the Chamber Choir, directed by Brent Tucker, offered as their anthem Missa Brevis -- Gloria (G.P. da Palestrina) and the Sanctus & Benedictus from the same work. Later during the communion service they sang Agnus Dei. Their offering to the service added to the "Treasures of the Heart." 

During the Evening Compline service, the Men's Ensemble with Anthony Edmunds as cantor, along with Rev. Peggy led us through this "end of the day" service. 

Brent's Postlude, Toccata - Leon Boellmann, was much appreciated. Bravo!!

Our Sanctuary Choir, with Garrett on piano and Brent directing, offered His Eye is on the Sparrow (Schrader) as their anthem and Down to the River to Pray as their Offertory. Heather McKeague and Kerry Duncan McCartney offered solo segments. Bruce Clark played as a Prelude, Trio & Finale on "Holy God, We Praise Your Name" (Kihiken) and Corrente Italiana (Cabanilles) as a Postlude.

With the theme of service on this Fourth Sunday after Epiphany being letting light into our lives, ACTS, Adult Spiritual Development Committee, presented some of the epiphanies garnered during their study of Barbara Brown Taylor's book, "Holy Envy." Music director, Brent Tucker, and accompaniest, Colleen Charter led the Angel Voices through the light-filled anthem, "Total Praise"  (Smallwood and Rao).

The Sanctuary Choir offered their ministry of song during this service that was based on the continuing theme of light in our lives. On this third Sunday after Epiphany, the choir, directed by Brent Tucker, with Garrett Krause accompanying, sang "You Are Love" (Gabrael St. Clair) and much loved favourite, "Lift Him Up" (Gardner and Ferrin). 

The Chamber Choir was featured on Sunday night as they led the music of the Evening Compline Service.  This candlelit service is a wonderful way to conclude a busy week or launch the upcoming week.

The Chamber Choir provided their music ministry to the service where the theme was connecting to the light. This celebration of communion and community was highlighted by the offertory, "Lully, Lulla, Lullay," the "Lord's Prayer" and "O Sacred Feast" sung during communion.  

December 22, 2019

Our Chamber Choir, directed by Brent Tucker with Colleen Charter accompanying, led the congregation through the traditional "Lessons and Carols" program on Sunday morning. Some of the carols were sung with the congregation while the anthem and offertory were performed by the choir. 

At the Christmas Eve 8:00 p.m. service, the choirs of St. David's will offer their ministry of song. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful ministry in our church.

This was a busy day for our music team. During ADVENT III service, Abundant Joy, we were gifted with the talent of Chinley Hinacay on his saxophone. In the evening, the Chamber Choir provided their ministry of music during the December Evening Compline service. Jim Picken performed on the organ during the pre-service recital. With the sanctuary lit by candles, the service of peace ended a very busy week. The Choir's rendition of the "Lord's Prayer" was particularly beautiful.

Our guest organist this morning was Claire Sharp who performed two pieces during the prelude as the congregation gathered. The Peace May Be Exchanged from Rubrics' Dan Locklair and Rorate Caeli by Jeanne DemessieuxAs well, we had a guest conductor, Chinley Hinacay, who directed our Chamber Choir as their ministry of song anthem was Joys Seven (Stephen Cleobury) and Offertory was Spotless Rose (setting by Ola Gjeilo). Chinley will be with us next week as well as we move into the last week of Advent.

Music this morning started with Diane Trew leading us through a liturgy entitled "EXPANSION OF OUR HEARTS." The Sanctuary Choir, with Garrett Krause accompanying, offered as their Anthem, "Jesus is the Light! (J. Paul WIlliams & Patti Drennan) and their offertory was Soon and Very Soon (Andrae Croch.arr. Jack Schrader). The Chamber Choir will be sharing Advent music with us next week.

Evening Compline, the first for the 2019-2020 year, featured Tor Ellergodt on his baroque cello and Brent Tucker on the harpsicord during the pre-service recital. As we listened to Tor's selections, we were invited to light a candle. The sanctuary was bathed in candle light with the choir singing from the balcony. This evening of calm and peacefulness will be repeated in December and in 2020, in January and February. Thank you, Brent, Rev. Peggy and Tor.

We were so privileged to have as our musical guests this morning, flautist Carolyn King, accompaniest Bruce Clark and violinist Eileen Kosasih. Carolyn also sang "Bonnie Portmore" from the 1740s. The Sanctuary Choir circled the congregation during their processional and they sang as an offertory "The Lark in the Clear Air" and "Ancient Words" as their anthem. Their Postlude was "Riversong - a Celtic Celebration (R. Emerson). Truly, the gift of song blessed us this morning.

Our Remembrance Day Service welcomed the Pam Breuer & Anthony Edmunds on trumpets and Andrew Joo with his bagpipes. The Chamber Choir's ministry in song this morning included "Lead Me On" (Brian A. Schmidt) and "In Flanders Fields" (McCrae/Daley). Our special guests were Pam Breuer & Anthony Edmunds – trumpets and Andrew Joo - bagpipes. Betsy Woolner was our reader. A poem was presented by Eileen Ladd and Hugo Goasdoué Wallace after which they along with Rev. Peggy led us in the singing of O Canada.

It was a privilege to listen to Claire Sharp play the prelude on the organ this morning. Recit de Cornet and Benedictus - Chromhorne en Taille by Francois Couperin were her choices. The Sanctuary Choir's ministry of song was "Bread of Heaven" (Mock and Lopez), "Table of Love" (Marrolli) and, during communion, was "Let us Come" (Marrolli). Next week is our Remembrance Service with music by the Chamber Choir. Guest musicians will be Pam Breuer on Trumpet and Andrew Joo, Piper.

Our very own Angel Voices offered their gift of song Sunday morning as they performed a piece composed by Garrett Krause, accompaniest for the Sanctuary Choir. "Traces" was their anthem selection while their Offertory featured "Little Lamb, Who Made Thee?" (R.E. McVey) as their contribution to the Bless the Animals service.

Carol Cymbala.) Soloists were Christy Brekke, Ruth Cross and Ian McDonald.

The Chamber Choir's offerings of "For the Beauty of the Earth" (Stopford) and "O Clap your Hands Together" (Tomkins) added to our measure of thanksgiving on Sunday morning and, as usual, text for our closing hymn, written by Rev. Peggy, reminded us that "A giving heart creates a warming light of hope and freedom, born when life feels bright. A Thankful faith expands our inward sight. Hallelujah, hallelujah."

This morning, Carsten Rubeling on trombone was our guest musician. His renditions of Oscar Peterson's Hymn to Freedom along with Summertime (Gershwin) and Serenade (Toselli) were well-received. Brent and Wayne's collaboration regarding this morning's music emphasizes the role of hospitality in the life of St. David's. Bruce also played the grand piano with enthusiasm as he accompanied the congregation in "One More Step along the World I Go" and "This is the Day." Kerry Duncan McCartney, member of the Sanctuary Choir and soloist, led us in our singing.

Mike Grammer, Torontonian and friend of ACTS Monday Night Book Study, was our guest musician on Sunday. His selection for Reflection was a piece that he had written to commemorate the death of a close friend and he and Brent performed "Romance" from "Duet Suite" by Denis Bedard with organ and piano as their Offertory selection.
