James 1:1-4
This is probably the earliest of the New Testament letters written to a young church composed primarily of Jewish believers. The author is likely James, brother of Jesus. The letter is written to believers who wish to live their faith in a way that honors God. It is a helpful book for all who want to make Jesus center of our lives and honor him in all we do. And he writes:
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
James 1:12
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
Hebrews 12:2
The author of this letter and its date is unknown. Like the letter of James it was probably written to predominantly Jewish believers:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Marie Curie a great scientist and double Nobel prize winner wrote: Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.
