The Gospel of Matthew: 26, 27
Holy Vessels: Season of Recovery

The service this morning honoured the ritual practice of anointing with oil. The story began with the anointing with oil of Jesus by the woman, unnamed but remembered through time and concluded with the sentence remembered throughout the story of Jesus: "It is finished."

Members of the choirs, Heather, Paula, Ruth and Wendy read segments of the scripture as the passion of Jesus was recalled. The black candles representing the last words of Jesus were lit then extinguished, one by one, as the bell was rung. And to mark the solemnity of the event, there was no gathering of the congregation, united on Zoom, following the service. We will gather on Sunday morning to celebrate Resurrection in the time-honoured tradition of our faith.

A special ministry of song was shared by the choirs, directed by Brent, on video, prepared earlier in the week. Masked, socially distanced, their voices joined in song -- something we have really missed during the time of COVID-19.
