HOSPITALITY with Rev. Dr. Wayne Holst

THis morning's reflection reminded us of the importance of hospitality by first hearing the story of Abraham and Sarah welcoming the three strangers who in turn promised them a son and the story of Mary and Martha welcoming Jesus' into their home. Hebrews 13:2 encapsulated both stories by stating, "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels without knowing it."

Wayne reminded us that "Community awareness is the first step to community renewal." His reference to the two new Canadian congregations that meet in St. David's weekly is an illustration of the breadth and depth of our community as he challenged us to nurture our community awareness. He concludes: "Hospitality means being good hosts and hostesses. It means paying attention to the angels that pass through our doors daily and weekly. That, I believe, is an important lesson to be learned from Abraham and Sarah, from Mary and Martha today."
