Memories of the McDougall Stoney Mission -- and where we go from here

Brenda McQueen from the McDougall Stoney Mission Society was the guest speaker at the worship service on Feb. 17, 2019. She began by showing a series of slides that recorded the long history between the McDougall family and the Stoney people. She is a descendant of the Rev. George and Mrs. McDougall who founded the mission in the 1870s.

There has been an ongoing relationship between the United Churches of Calgary with the McDougall Memorial United Church that was destroyed by fire in May of 2017. For many years Rev. Dr. Stephen Wilk presided over the fall and spring services at the church. Later, Wayne Holst, Adult Spiritual Development Ministry at St. David's, has presided over the twice yearly services. The McDougall Stoney Mission Society has been very busy since the burning of their heritage church that was built in the 1870s. Our Tatanga Mani room was named in honour of Walking Buffalo.
