Monday Night Book Study:

November 28, 2022: We have finished our Fall Monday Night Book Study in fine fashion. We spent our time, commenting on the book, "Humankind: A Hopeful History" and its impact on our thinking. Secondly, we spent time dreaming about what might be our focus for Session #50 beginning on January 23, 2023. Hope to see you then.

November 21, 2022: The book is complete with only the Epilog to go. Again, we gathered, viewed, discussed, questioned as we attacked Chapters 17, 18 and 19, concluding with the peace truce story of Christmas Eve 1914. We were left with "A Hopeful History" as promised by Bregman when we started our study.

Next week will be our final session. Reading is the Epilog, to which we have referred to weekly as we made our way through the book. Bregman's Rules to Live by have guided us along since September. Maybe next week we will add a guiding rule or two. N,

November 14, 2022: Chapter 15 brought out all kinds of thinking and sharing last night. Mike, from Toronto, opened Session 49-08 and Deb closed. Contribution last night from Jim, from Kamloops, was very informative as he talked about the "Tragedy of the Commons." The Pause for Consideration for 49-08 sets a record for length; it includes the text from opening, closing and Tragedy of the Commons.

We have two sessions left as the reading of the book draws to a close. Read Chapters 16, 17 and 18.

November 7, 2022: So tonight we were blessed to be on ZOOM rather than facing the sub-zero temperatures outside. There were 18 of us online to consider Intrinsic Motivation and Homo Ludens  (Humans, who play). Ken opened with a timely session on "Misinformation and Disinformation. Thank you, Ken. Next week, read Chapter 15 (This is what Democracy Looks Like) and the prologue for Part Five: Turn the Other Cheek.

October 31, 2022: In spite of ringing door bells and Hallowe'en Trick Or Treaters at the door, we managed to enjoy our session 49-06 together tonight. We even had a couple of participants dressed for the occasion. Our Focus tonight was on the question "Why Good People turn Bad" and our theories added to Bregman's gave rise to great discussion. Our Rule #6 was Love your own as others love their own. Bregman was asking us to remember that in all we do, we love those we claim to know as do others love those they know and care for.

Next week, Read the intro to Part 4 as well as Chapters 13 and 14. See you then

October 24, 2022: "Try to understand the other, even when you don't know where they are coming from." A great night. Thanks to Margie for her opener and Karen, for the closing.

October 3, 2022 49-03:

Another great evening thanks to your particapation. Take a read of the Pause to Consider for a recap and, of course, review the pdf of the Session as provided.

No gathering on October 10 -- Thanksgiving Monday. See you on the 17th. Read Chapter 6, Part Two Intro and Chapter 7.

September 26, 2022 Session #2

Discussion tonight was awesome. I was able to note some contributions which you will find in Pause to Conside 49-02. Readings for next week are Chapters 3,4 and 5. See you there.

September 17, 2022:

We have begun our study of Humankind: A Hopeful History. There will be 9 more sessions. We continue to meet on zoom with 21 devices online for Session #1. File attachments for the presentation and the Pause to Consider which tries to capture the events of the session, are attached below. Enjoy!

Plan to join us on Monday nights as we explore a new book. Our study starts at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m.

If you would like to purchase the book and join, please contact Brenda, Wayne or Joan and we will gladly add your name.
